How to Download Songs from Udio: Get Your Tracks Back
You cannot download songs from the Udio website anymore. Udio turned off audio, video, and stem downloads on October 29, 2025, after its deal with Universal Music Group. You can still save your songs in two ways: export public Udio links with the free, open source dfd tool, or record the audio while it plays on your computer.
Export Udio Songs with the Docker-Based dfd Tool
dfd is a free, open source, Docker-based tool that exports audio from public Udio song, playlist, and creator links.
It exports MP3 by default. The M4A option keeps the original AAC stream without re-encoding. It can also write WAV or FLAC, but those files are converted from the same AAC stream, so they do not sound better. The tool embeds the available song metadata and cover art.
Because it runs in Docker, dfd works on Windows, macOS, and Linux. On Windows, it runs through WSL2. The README has the setup instructions, and an AI assistant can help if you get stuck.
The README says the tool is for research and personal use, and warns that heavy use can get your streaming access restricted or banned. Do not raise the number of parallel workers much above the default.

How to Record Udio Audio on Windows
- Open Audacity and choose Windows WASAPI as the audio host.
- As the recording device, select the playback device you use to hear the track. Choose the option marked (loopback).
- Start playing the Udio track, then press Record in Audacity.
- Stop recording when the track ends, trim any silence, and export the audio file. Export as WAV or FLAC to avoid another round of lossy compression.

How to Record Udio Audio on macOS
- Install BlackHole, a macOS audio loopback driver.
- Route your computer's playback audio through BlackHole. To hear the track while recording, create a multi-output device that sends audio to both BlackHole and your speakers or headphones.
- Open Audacity and select BlackHole as the recording input.
- Start playing the Udio track, press Record, then stop and export the recording when it finishes.
Record a short test first. Check that the recording level is healthy and that notifications or other apps are not audible in the recording.
Why Can't You Download Songs from Udio Anymore?
If the download button disappeared after you spent hours on a track, you're not alone. Udio's Help Center says that downloading audio, video, and stems was disabled after its Universal Music Group partnership. After complaints from users, Udio reopened downloads for 48 hours starting November 3, 2025, then turned them off again.
The practical result is platform lock-in. UMG's October 29, 2025 announcement says Udio's existing product would stay available during the transition, with creations kept inside a walled garden. Udio also added digital rights management (DRM) to its streams. BuyDRM announced on July 14, 2026 that Udio had deployed its KeyOS MultiKey service, which supports Google Widevine, Apple FairPlay, and Microsoft PlayReady for protected playback. With DRM, the audio stream is encrypted and only a licensed player can decrypt it during playback, so you cannot simply save the stream as a file.
What to Do After You Save Your Udio Songs
Both methods start from Udio's compressed stream. The audio keeps that compression damage even if you save it as WAV, because converting a file does not bring back the missing detail. Read the difference between audio restoration and converting to WAV.

Can you still download songs from Udio?
Not from the Udio website. As of October 2026, Udio's Help Center still says that audio, video, and stem downloads are disabled. Use dfd or record the playback instead. Once saved, AI can upscale a Udio song to WAV.

Udio has not announced a date for downloads to return. If you want to keep your songs, save them now.
Can I download stems from Udio?
